Most application rounds are short
Residencies hire in rounds, and our team confirms each round's dates on the hospital's page before the app shows it as open. Of the 33 rounds we confirmed this cycle with both an opening and a closing date, across 13 states, half were open for 10 days or less, and 12 closed within a week. A round you find out about a week late may already be over.
Can you work before you pass the NCLEX?
It depends on the state. We read each state's own law, rule or board page: in 29 of the 50 states and DC, a new graduate can work under an RN's supervision on a permit before passing, usually for a few months; most of these permits end if you fail. In 14, including Illinois, Ohio and Georgia, you wait for the license. For 8 we could not confirm it from an official source, and say so.
